Leicester Planning Board adopts Center of Town vision plan.

Leicester Planning Board received the Center of Town vision plan, developed by the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission and funded by a state Community Compact Best Practice Award. The plan addresses five priorities: improving building facades and streetscapes along Route 9; balancing pedestrian connectivity with automobile traffic; attracting retail and food businesses; amending zoning to facilitate development while preserving historic character; and investing in public spaces and programming. Recommended strategies include introducing build-to-zones, conducting a Route 9 Planning and Needs Assessment, widening sidewalks, limiting curb cuts, prohibiting front-of-property parking, implementing on-street parking, and developing a Comprehensive Wayfinding and Branding Plan.
The plan includes an implementation matrix and recommends assigning oversight to the Economic Development Committee or a Master Plan implementation committee.
